When my husband, Joe, turned 16 his parents told him to go out and find a job and to not come home until he had one! When our kids turned 16, they too, were told to go find a job. They could come home if they didn’t find one! LOL!
These days the process is both simpler and more complicated! You can fill out applications online, you can be interviewed over the phone, you can find job openings on websites such as Snag job, Indeed, Monster Jobs or Zip Recruiter. The list is endless!
The most important aspect of looking for a job, that appears to be overlooked these days is, the human interaction with a prospective boss. Basic do’s and don’ts for interviewing! First off, leggings, short shorts, tank tops, ripped t-shirts and wrinkled clothes are things you should never wear to an interview! Showing up late for an interview or not showing up at all, is not cool! You can only make a 1st impression once, don’t blow it!
Next bit of advice, check out the company you are interviewing with! Look at their website, become friends with them on Facebook! Know who you may be working for!
Finally, be honest about how many hours you can work, speak up during the interview, don’t bring your friends or your Mom and give a firm handshake! No one likes a flimsy fish handshake!
